Natural Selection: the best rattan pieces to work the wicker trend

Interiors / May 27, 2020

Bamboo, wicker, cane, and rattan, all things natural are having a serious moment in interiors. Not only for outdoor, but the natural fabrics have also been reimagined in stylish iterations ideal for everywhere in the home from the bedroom to the living room.

Headboard, €365, Urban Outfitters

Offering a relaxed, rustic beachy, tropical vibe, rattan couldn’t be more of-the-moment embodying a more far-flung feel making for an all together super calming and cozy space.

Rather than decking out the whole place with the beside-the-beach, theme, rattan works best with select, choice elements that offer a subtle accent and elegantly contrast with more polished pieces.

Chair, €219, H&M

To ensure it looks more chic than cliched, avoid mixing it with too many other bohemian, beachy elements, like macrame, and opt for a more contemporary cane that incorporates classic elements that you know won’t date.

Chair, €565, French Connection

The handy thing about bamboo, wicker, cane, and rattan, is that they all come natural and neutral, so will work with any palette, from pared-back pastels to even more bright and bold interior schemes.

Seek out vintage, mid-century is better rather than 80s throwback pieces, or if you want to keep it under budget, working the woven look on the high-street is everyone from Oliver Bonas to French Connection, H&M to Urban Outfitters with reasonably priced rattan pieces. I’ve gathered my favourites below, scroll down to check them out.
