Inky hues and indigo washed over the SS18 runways, with designers Tibi, Tom Ford and Max Mara giving denim the grown-up treatment. Forget stonewashed and ripped, less punk more polished, it’s the return of dark, selvedge denim giving the hardworking fabric a tailored twist.

Far from being restricted to plain old jeans the indigo wash is turning up in everything from sleek shirt-dresses, oversized jackets and utilitarian jumpsuits making it a viable option for after-dark or the office.
