Get shirty

The blue striped shirts that you’d normally associated with the boardroom- all buttoned-up, and wrapped up in a tie – are everywhere, but you should be wearing the spring 2021 offering everywhere but the office.

It isn’t the first season the striped buttoned down has been widespread. At this stage, you might as well add one to your wardrobe and keep it there as it’s a total classic. I just peeked into my wardrobe and saw I have four – building up the collection.

More boyfriend than boardroom, it comes in a more oversized silhouette for the season ahead, which taps into the comfort-first-trend that’s dominating for spring. Try it worn French-tucked into jeans or trousers, worn loose with a tailored track pant, or layer it over a pleated or slip skirt.

I love the contrast of the crisp shirt with something a little more dressy – a silky slip skirt or sequins make a really stylish partner to the blue striped shirt. And although the warm weather hasn’t arrived yet, it shouldn’t put you off wearing it as it looks chic and cosy slipped over a fine knit polo neck.
